Jarrunis L. Yates (J.R.)
Jarrunis L. Yates (J.R.) grew up in Rock Hill, SC and graduated from Westminster Catawba. He earned a Bachelor of Art degree from Clemson University in secondary education. He received his Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law. While attending Howard University, J.R. was the secretary for the Howard Chapter of ATLA and also was selected for the criminal justice clinic, which was tasked with defending indigent people in Washington, DC charged with felony and misdemeanor crimes. J.R. is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of South Carolina and the United States District Court of South Carolina.
J.R. is also a member of the United States Air Force Reserves. Captain Yates is an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate for the 628 Air Base Wing at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. Captain Yates serves as an IMA reservist. He received a direct commission as a Judge Advocate in March 2011 and was first stationed at Seymour Johnson in Goldsboro, NC before being reassigned to Charleston.
His practice includes civil litigation with an emphasis in real estate and land use issues. He also focuses on administrative law issues handling worker’s compensation, social security disability claims, and veteran’s benefit cases. Capt Yates’ experience as both a civilian and reservist gives him a unique perspective on the issues facing families dealing with difficult legal issues in today’s world.
